Awesome Machine!

I've been building models and miniatures for over 50 years and I have to say this was the most fun, most challenging, and most satisfying one I've made yet. The pieces are precision and the instructions have excellent diagrams making this a superb miniature piece of engineering. I love watching and listening to it operate. I'll be getting Aetherwings to ad to it soon.

This was my first Mecrob build and what a truly amazing experience, so much fun. I’ve built many other models, all metal and some wood, but Mecrob has many different materials in one build, which is a joy to the senses. The anticipation is amazing when you reach the end and put power to it and wow! Everything starts moving, truly wonderful. Adding Aetherwings next was the crowning achievement. Thank you Mecrob.

Building the mechanical steam engine

I started the assembly without testing the electric motor I carried on and I couldn’t workout how to do a certain part with the rubber band. I reviewed some videos to find they were all speed builds. I figured it out in the end. I found some one had tested the electric motor when I tested mine in either polarity it wouldn’t work. So I had to back track to remove it. I’ve requested a replacement and awaiting for the spare to arrive I’ve carried on building and I have found silicon gun oil or grease a good lubricant on some parts. I cannot go any further until the motor arrives but I’m loving the experience of it all and the little adjustments I have make it all work I’m on holiday at present and the sad thing is I’m missing it at the moment

Utterly absorbing

Spent many hours assembling Aethercore, painstakingly-patient, and taking great care not to rush or skip any step. Was very organized and methodical. This kit is NOT for the haphazard or "don't read the manual" folks - it is for those who can follow instructions to the letter and double/treble check everything along the way. The only addition I would make to the manual would be to suggest putting a tiny amount of WD40 or similar on ALL the moving parts at the end - I used a cotton bud and a fine hypodermic needle to do that, and everything just worked so smoothly after that. It had been a bit "stuttery" prior to the WD40. Great model, Kids absolutely mesmerised by the finished product. Love it!

Great fun and rewarding

Like a steam punk version of Meccano, this is well-thought out, and feels like decent quality from the moment you open the packaging. I enjoyed putting it together, and for me it was challenging enough to be fun, but not impossible. One gotcha was that the polarity on the motor provided was back to front so - having assembled everything, the motor then spun the wrong way and helpfully unwound a nut which was difficult to get to. I flipped the wires and managed to re-tighten the nut sufficiently with pliers to get it working. Otherwise the whole thing was great.
